Michael Matosky Obituary

Michael J. Matosky, a local area businessman and entrepreneur, 35, of Wyoming, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, September 20, 2009, due to a heart attack while driving home from a very successful opening of his new restaurant, AuRants, in Duryea.
Mike was born December 22, 1973, in Wilkes-Barre, a son of Terri Parulis Matosky, Franklin Township, and the late Michael D. Matosky.
Mike served his country honorably as a U.S. Marine. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Masonic Lodge 395, in Kingston. He was a volunteer for the Wilkes-Barre Association for the Blind and was a Pittston YMCA board member.
In Mike’s short time with us, he touched the lives of many people through his kind heart, loyalty and friendship; thus, the void created by his passing will be impossible to replace.
Besides the opening of his new restaurant, AuRants, with his business partner, Dave Ciminelli, Mike was also co-owner of Color My World Inc., an international master distributor of heat transfer papers and other specialty media products, for the past five years with his close friend and business partner, Emil Calomino.
While developing the Color My World business with Emil, Mike also partnered with his fiancée, Allison Davis, and Emil to create Shirtificates and win the 2007 GVTA Business Plan Award, given annually for the best business plan that utilizes technology in developing a business model.
Mike was a graduate of Bishop O’Reilly High School and attended Penn State University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in political science. He also attained a MBA from Tulane University. He started his career as a legislative aide to the speaker of the House of Representatives. He was an economic development specialist for Penn State University’s Penntap program.
Prior to starting Color My World, Mike was a consultant for the Penntap program, which through state grants allowed local area business to tap consulting talent in order to further their own business models. Mike garnered the experience for his Penntap work as a technical project manager for Silicon Valley Concern, Kana Communications, which did ERP systems implements for organizations such as eBay, UPromise, and others.
While Mike’s business accomplishments were many and impressive, more impressive was the close ties he had with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Michael and Lillian Matosky; and maternal grandparents Joseph and Rosemary Parulis.
Mike was very close to his entire family and is survived by, in addition to his mother, brother Sgt. Brian Matosky and his wife, Gennica, of Andrew Air Force Base in Maryland; nephew Rylan Tyler; and his closest friend and fiancée, Allison Davis, of Forty Fort. Mike also leaves behind another close friend, his loyal bulldog, Ike, along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mike’s funeral will be held on Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Bednarski Funeral Home, 168 Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home. Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m..
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rylan Tyler Matosky Educational Fund, The Pittston YMCA, or to the American Heart Association.

09/16/19 I think about you often. All starting on bus #3 when you would pull the yarn from my Eagles hat and tease me.. lol.. Until the day I stuck up for myself and we became friends afterward. The three musketeers (Ray, Mike and Jim)

Since then I remember watching you march to the beat of your own drum. You would ride the bus with your Sony Walkman reading these weird political books. Mike was always was upto date on the newest trends of music and movies. Mike kept Ray and I informed of the ever changing music and movies scene.

I remember The times Ray and I would meet up with you at your house during the late night hours sneaking through your garage so we don't wake up your parents. We would just hang out or go for a cruise in the Honda Civic. I also remember you jamming to your music and the funny twitch or dance move you would do while singing.. lol

I also remember when you enlisted in the Marine Corps and the first time back out in public. We went to the haunted barn. You dressed in your trench coat and Christopher Columbus hat. Mike went through each room by kicking in the door and tactically rolling in scaring the actors that were supposed to be scaring us.

The college days at Penn State and seeing House of Pain with Mike, Ray your brother Brian and his friend Jerrytone. Mike let Jerrytone wear his Uni-Mart work shirt to the show. The phrase of the night Lol.."Bust a bone U."

Although Ray and I may not have inspired Mike with his work ethic he certainly inspired me. Mike always believed in his friends and always had your back. There are many other memories I have but I'll keep them for now.. I miss you Mike

Terri,Allison..and family..The time I spent growing up with Mike will never be forgotten.Mike always was my advisor on everything from investments,to operating my telephone.I want to say I know what kind of loss you feel, because I feel the same.He was like a brother to me.Our time growing up in the scouts, cruising the streets of kingston, checking out the latest flicks, hiking the mountains of New mexico...ect,etc..The bottom line on what I have to say is..when life was great he was part of it the most..Before "the real world"The time in our lives where we would dream and talk about our future ventures-he was there. In fact If it wasnt for Mike,I would not be where Im at today. That is the TRUTH. My childhood friend,My advisor through life,My inspiration to be Independant,Most important...My Brother. I Love you man. -Ray Baller-

Dear Terri & Allison and Family, I'm a very dear friend of Dolores Davis, your mom Allison, from our House of Lloyd days. I spoke with your Mom this morning and learned about Michael's death. How very sorry I am to have you both experience the loss of Michael. After reading his obituary...I feel like I got to meet the wonderful young man your Mom has told me about in the past few months. May the Lord comfort you both and the rest of the family as you strive to move forward in your lives. Michael made his impact on many, I can see that. He will be forever remembered by all that knew him, and for those of us who never had the privilege of meeting him, it's an honor to have read about his life here today. Many prayers go with you .... Terri,it saddens me to know you lost such a precious child with a huge drive to succeed.I cut his hair for past 2-yrs and was in total disbelief to read his passing in the local newspaper knowing his grand opening was comming soon for AuRunts.I find it uncomprhensible for God to take Mike from you, family, and fiancee at such a young age.We always had nice discussions during his haircut and was educated by his political views.
He will be sadly missed by me.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Terry and the whole Matosky family,
I am so sorry for your loss. No words in this world could express how sorry I feel for the loss of Mikey. Very Shocking. My memories of Michael were Chicken soup on Sundays when we were all much younger. I'm not surprised by all of his accomplishments. He was very sweet and smart as a young boy. Terry I know you are very proud.

I can't even begin to write the words because they will not provide justice to the sorrow I feel for all of Mike's family, friends, fiance and his doggie, Ike. Mike is an old friend of mine and I will never ever forget him. I just can not believe that this has happened. A few years ago Mike gave me a book, out of nowhere, he just dropped it off at my moms house. It was called "Tuesdays With Morrie". It was about a dying man who taught his friend about the ultimate lessons in life. The act of Mike giving this book as a gift just showed that he understood what life was really about. It spoke volumes about Mikes character. I will never forget that gift. Mike, if you're reading this, please look after all of your loved ones, they are going to miss you so much. I send this with deep sympathy and all the prayers in the world.

Terry,
I have wanted to call you, but just didn't know what to say. The pride that you have for your children was apparent in the conversations that we've had. Many people aren't as lucky as Mike was to be blessed with a mother like you, so genuine and caring. I hope that the bond that you and Mike shared and your wonderful memories sustain you. There are truely no words to express how deeply sorry I am for your loss.

Sincerely,
