Norman Gordon, 88, of Boynton Beach, Fla., died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at home.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Geraldine "Gerry" Cutler Gordon, who died April 19, 2011.
Born in Taylor, son of the late Eli and Hannah Kurlancheek Gordon, Norman was a graduate of Taylor High School, attended Lehigh University, enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was assigned to study meteorology at the University of Virginia. Following discharge, Norman was associated with his father and brother, Kenneth, in Gordon's Furniture Store, Taylor, and Kurlancheek's Furniture Store, Scranton. In 1966, he moved with his family to Huntington Station, N.Y., where he owned and operated along with his son, Marc, a successful dry cleaning store for 32 years. Upon retirement, Norman and Gerry moved to Boynton Beach, where he enjoyed volunteering at his Temple and at the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Discovery and Science. Norman was also a professional driver, taking his clients to and from the airport.
Norman is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law, Marc and Ann, Islip, N.Y.; Lee and Ellen, Boca Raton, Fla.; Todd and Terese, Laurel, N.Y.; a brother, Kenneth; sister-in-law, Harriet, Jerusalem, Israel; a sister, Doris, and brother-in-law, Nathan Brown, Kingston. He leaves grandchildren, Jacob, Boston, Mass.; Melissa and Amy, Islip, N.Y.; Matthew and wife, Olivia, Orlando, Fla.; Stephanie, Los Angeles, Calif.; Gregory, Laurel, N.Y.
Funeral services will be held today at noon at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, Boynton Beach, Fla., followed by graveside services at Huntington Jewish Center Cemetery, Dix Hills, N.Y., at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20. Shiva will be observed at the Brown Residence, 571 Warren Ave., Kingston, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
