Sofus M. "Duke" Jensen Jr., 76, formerly of Luzerne, passed away on Saturday at the Gino Merli Veterans Center, Scranton.

He was born in Swoyersville on July 13, 1936. He was the son of the late Sofus M. Sr. and Olga Fergin Jensen.

He was a graduate of Luzerne High School, class of 1954.

He served in the U.S. Army from May 1956 to April 1959, attaining the rank of PFC.

He was employed by Offset Paperback Manufacturers, Dallas, until his retirement in 1992.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Jensen; sisters, Lorraine, Leona, Betty and Elsie.

Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, the former Marie Shovlin Jensen; daughter, Karen Snyder, and her husband, Boyd; sons, William Jensen and Robert Jensen; three grandchildren, Michael, Nicole and Tracy Snyder; sister, Caroline Humphries; brother, Earl Jensen, several nieces and nephews.

Military funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. from the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home Inc., 568 Bennett St., Luzerne, with the Rev. Carol Colemen officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas.

Family and friends may call today from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m.
