Suniti Perti, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Oct. 9, 2013, peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her children.
Suniti was born in Khulna, India, on Dec. 23, 1926. She grew up in East Bengal, now Bangladesh, with her parents, Praful and Hemnalini Biswas, and eight siblings. She graduated from Calcutta University with a bachelor of arts degree.
Suniti was married to Pratap Singh Perti on Aug. 12, 1944. They were married for 66 years until he preceded her in death.
She was an adoring, loving and caring mother and a wonderful homemaker. She worked as a teacher at a local primary school for several years. She enjoyed and excelled at cooking, stitching, knitting, gardening and painting.
Suniti is survived by her three children, Ash Perti and his wife, Kiran; Rita Aneja and her husband, Krishan; Deepak Perti and his wife, Nikki, and the rest of his family; friends and her loving caregivers, Josephina, Amy, Pauline, Rose, Balvinder, Ruby and Parveen.
Visitation will be 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, 570-823-7157. Visitation will be followed by services (pooja) at 2:30 p.m. Cremation will immediately follow the services at Sunlight Crematory, 628 Nanticoke St., Hanover Township. The fourth day (Chautha) memorial lunch will be at noon Sunday at New Amber Restaurant, 3505 Birney Ave., Moosic, 570-344-7100.
