Veronica T. Ungvarsky

Veronica T. Ungvarsky, 91, formerly of the North End section of Wilkes-Barre, left the loving arms of her family to be with God on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the home of her daughter.

Veronica was born on Feb. 14, 1922, in Siba, Czechoslovakia, a daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Fertal. She immigrated to the United States in 1928.

She was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, and was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Slovak Church in the North End section of Wilkes-Barre for 85 years. While a member, she belonged to the Catholic Daughters Rosary Society and the Sacred Heart School PTA. She also volunteered with compassion at Manor Care Nursing Home, Kingston, and at the Senior Citizens Center, Wilkes-Barre.

Veronica was employed for many years by Central Slipper Co. However, her most important and cherished job was being Nana, and she was ""The Best."" She was extremely proud of her family and enjoyed spending time with them around the dinner table.

In addition to her parents, Veronica was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen; sister, Mary Benz; and brother, Frank Fertal.

Surviving are her daughter, Joan Magdalinski and her husband, Frank; son, James Ungvarsky; son, Stephen Ungvarsky and his wife, Theresa; grandchildren, Michael and his wife, Christine, and Linda Viteritti and her husband, John; great-grandchildren, Robert, Emily and Ryan Viteritti and Morgan and Mason Magdalinski; brother, the Rev. Joseph Fertal, SVD; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Ungvarsky and Mary Ungvarsky; and several nieces and nephews.

Veronica's family thanks her caregivers, Mzia and Maia; Sisters Joseph Louise and Joseph Marie Magdalinski; and Dr. Joseph Radzwilka for their outstanding care and kindness.

Veronica's funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Maria Goretti Church, 42 Redwood Drive, Laflin. The Parish Rosary Group will recite the Divine Mercy Chaplet and Rosary in the Church 30 minutes before the funeral Mass. All are invited to join them. Interment will be held in Sacred Heart Slovak Cemetery, Dallas. Friends may call Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti Church.
