Wendel R. Schuetz, 78, of Wilkes-Barre, passed into eternal rest surrounded by his loving family, Saturday evening, March 20, 2010. Born April 27, 1931 in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late George and Josephine Messmer Schuetz. Wendel was a graduate of Coughlin High School, Class of 1948, where he was on the football and track teams. He was a veteran with the United States Navy. Immediately following he joined the Marine Corps and was promoted to Staff Sergeant, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of All Saints Parish, Plymouth. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the Wilkes-Barre Area School District and was the owner and operator of the Octagon Bar and Restaurant in Plymouth, for many years. Throughout his life, he greatly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, who meant the world to him. He had a great sense of humor and was an enthusiastic storyteller. He was preceded in death by his brother, George. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Lucille Vercoski; daughters, Donna Schuetz, of Virginia, and Patricia Singer and her husband, John, of Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, John W. Singer, of Plymouth; Tricia Singer and her fiancé, Jeffrey Gray, of Wilkes-Barre, and Patrick Singer, of Wilkes-Barre; and nephew, George Schuetz and his wife, Debra, of Rhode Island. Funeral will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the S.J.Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 West Main Street, Plymouth, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in All Saints Parish, 66 Willow Street, Plymouth. Interment will be in St. Mary's Nativity Cemetery, Plymouth Township.
