WILKES-BARRE — Leonard L. Hummel, 86, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Timber Ridge Health Care Center, Plains Township.

He was born in Wilkes-Barre on May 22, 1927. He was a son of the late Frank F. and Charlotte Speary Hummel.

He attended E.L. Meyers High School, Wilkes-Barre, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was employed by Foster Wheeler Corp., Mountain Top, for more than 30 years, until his retirement.

He was a member of Albright United Methodist Church, Wilkes-Barre, and a member of its Rainbow Seniors Club.

He enjoyed gardening and loved to travel with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Hummel; brothers, Stewart and Benjamin Hummel.

Surviving are his loving wife of 62 years, the former Angela Ferro Hummel; daughter, Lynn Kelley, and her husband, Dave; son, Frank Hummel, and his wife, Kathryn; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Jeanette Gittens and Madeline "Phoebe" Eustice; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from the George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Ashley. A prayer service will be at 10 a.m. in Albright United Methodist Church, 116 Dana St., Wilkes-Barre, with Eugene Sperazza, CLM, officiating. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Mausoleum, St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Family and friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. to time of services Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Leonard's name to the , Hospice of the Sacred Heart or Celtic HealthCare.
