WILKES-BARRE — Walter Paul Gottlieb, 90, formerly of Highland Drive, Wilkes-Barre, and a guest at Tiffany Court, Kingston, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014.

Born on Sept. 9, 1923, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Paul and Catherine Gavron Gottlieb. He was a graduate of Coughlin High School. Walter was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Church and was a past member of the Holy Name Society and the Sarmatian's Men Club.

He was a 4th-degree member of the Council 302 of the Knights of Columbus, Wilkes-Barre, and the Plains American Legion Post 558. He retired from the Wilkes-Barre Post Office, where he was employed as a letter carrier and supervisor. Walter served as president of Branch 115 of the National Association of Letter Carriers and president of the board of directors of the now Corner Post Federal Credit Union.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Walter was preceded in death by wife of 49 years, Celestine Pienta Gottlieb, on May 25, 1998. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Mary Mahon, Estelle Ronde, Lucille Krugel; and brothers, Benjamin, Leon and Julian Gottlieb.

Surviving are daughters, Susan Bechetti and her husband, Daniel, Bear Creek; Mary Lou Shank and her husband, Jack, Charlotte, N.C.; son, Paul Gottlieb, and his wife, Mary Ann, Plains Township; grandchildren, Daniel H Bechetti Jr., Gabrielle Gottlieb; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S. Main St., Plains Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Ss. Peter & Paul Church. Interment with military rites will be in Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Plains Township. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
