NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Margaret Q. McGarry, 70, formerly of West Pittston, passed away April 29, 2014, in Yale-New Haven Hospital, New Haven. Born in Buffalo, New York, April 5, 1944, a daughter of the late Vincent and Margaret Mary Gaughan Quinn.
Margaret was a registered nurse, but spent most of her life devoting herself to her family. She was an avid quilter and owned Cranberry Quilters in Hamilton, Massachusetts. She spent many of her last years traveling the world. Margaret was living in West Haven, Connecticut, on the beaches of Long Island Sound but had lived in Houghton, Michigan; Salem, Massachusetts; and Saratoga, New York.
She was deeply loved and will be terribly missed by many.
She is survived by her husband, William J. McGarry, with whom she shared 48 years of marriage. They met in first grade at St. John's School, Pittston.
She also leaves behind three children: daughter, Erin McGarry-Sullivan and her her husband, Stephen, son: Sean McGarry and fiancee, Teresa Traci; daughter, Megan Gnidula and her husband, Thadeus.
She leaves behind her seven grandchildren of which she was present at each of their births: William, Ann, Benjamin, Timothy, Martin, Andrew and Mary Margaret.
Also surviving is her sister, Mary Terese Russin and her husband, Robert; and many other sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. John the Evangelist Church, William Street, Pittston. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church on Tuesday. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston. Interment in St. John's Cemetery, Pittston.
