PITTSTON — John R. Gill, 77, of Pittston, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Angela Turoni Gill.
Born in Dupont on Nov. 12, 1936, a son of the late Catherine (Chmura) and John W. Gill, John graduated from Avoca High School. After finishing high school in 1954, he enlisted into the U.S Navy, where he served four years. He then went on to attend Penn State University and earned a degree in engineering.
John began his career at Babcock & Wilcox, continued on to Pocono Drafting, and his final employer, from which he retired, was Owens Illinois.
In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were brothers, Richard, Joseph and Michael Gill.
Surviving are his daughter, Mary Kay, and her husband, Michael Conway; grandchildren, Caitlin, Shane and Nicole Conway; Ed Risley; great-grandchildren, Mia and Sophia Risley. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, several nieces and nephews.
The family expresses their thanks to all the doctors and nurses who cared for John.
Funeral services have been entrusted to Graziano Funeral Home Inc., Pittston Township.
Viewing hours will be noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. Those who plan on attending should be at the funeral home no later than 12:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. from St. Joseph Marello Parish, William Street, Pittston.
Interment services will take place in St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, Pittston.
