NANTICOKE — Pauline J. Talarski, 100, of Nanticoke, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
She was born in Nanticoke on March 22, 1914, and was a daughter of the late Thomas and Johanna (Jennie) Guzofski.
Pauline was a graduate of Nanticoke High School, class of 1932, and East Stroudsburg Teachers College. After teaching in Nanticoke for five years, she began her career with the federal government.
She worked for the Veterans Administration, where she later became one of the first female supervisors. She completed her 35 years of federal service at the Economic Development Administration (EDA).
After retiring from the federal government, she continued working for a few years at the Nanticoke Development Authority.
Pauline had many and varied interests. She was an avid reader, loved watching pro-football games, as well as playing bridge, doing crossword puzzles and knitting. Most of all, she enjoyed socializing with friends and neighbors while sharing a glass of wine. Also, she was a devoted member of Mill Memorial Library for many years.
Pauline was preceded in death by brother, Leon; infant sister, Theresa; sister, Dorothy Janora; and beloved nephew, Thomas Janora.
Presently surviving are nieces, Joan Kruk and her husband, Daniel, Alexandria, Virginia; Sandra Padgett and her husband, Charles, St. Augustine, Florida; great nieces and nephews, Jeanette Creger, Maryland; Aileen Smith and her husband, Kevin, Virginia; Elizabeth Padgett, Virginia; Michael Padgett, California; great-great-nieces and nephews, Christopher, Caitlin, Jeremy and Madison
A Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Faustina Parish (primary site), with the Rev. James Nash officiating. A private interment will be held in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Honoring Pauline's wishes, there will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, if desired, may be made in her name to the Mill Memorial Library, Nanticoke.
