NORTH EAST, Md. — George M. Washko Jr., 83, of North East, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 29, 2014.

George was formerly from Swoyersville, the son of George M. and Helen Washko. George graduated from Swoyersville High School then joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. He retired from Hewlett Packard Corp. as a purchasing agent.

George was an avid golfer and a member of Chantilly Golf Course. George enjoyed traveling on many golf trips with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George M. and Helen (Adamchick) Washko; his sister Helen and her husband, Joe Evanko.

George is survived by a sister, Carol W. Stafford, and her husband, Francis "Lee"; nieces and nephews, Kenneth Stafford, Kelly Stafford, Debra and her husband, Greg Sherman; Mary Beth and Patrick Epping; Susan Cray and her companion, Michael Palasciano; great-nieces, Amanda Howell and her husband, Daniel; Erin Greer; great-nephew, C.J. Wood.

Relatives and friends are invited to the memorial service in celebration of the life of George M. Washko at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, Delaware. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 1:30 p.m.
