SWOYERSVILLE — Mary M. Vitanovec, 85, formerly of Swoyersville, passed away Friday, June 27, 2014, in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Exeter Township, she was a daughter of the late Floryan and Mary Gwozdy Mikolaichik. She was a graduate of Wyoming Memorial High School, class of 1946. Prior to retirement, she was employed J & R Dress Factory, formerly of Wyoming.
She was a member of St. Monica's Parish of West Wyoming and the Maltby Ladies Auxiliary.
Preceding her in death were her brothers, John, Edmund, Joseph, Anthony, Louis and Franky Mikolaichik, Thomas Mikols; and sisters, Florence Wateski, Helen Sipper and Celia Gutchek.
Surviving are her husband, John, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage; daughter, Mary Ann Piskorik and her husband, Paul, Swoyersville; grandchildren, Leslie Cox and her husband, Brian, Downingtown, P.J. Piskorik, Swoyersville; great-grandson, Bennett Cox; brother, Henry Mikolaichik and his wife, Bernadine, Exeter Township; sister, Louise Genelow, Kingston; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Metcalfe-Shaver-Kopcza Funeral Home Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Monica's Parish, 363 W. Eighth St., West Wyoming. Interment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
