PLAINS TWP. — Mr. Joseph Stephanik, formerly of Wilkes-Barre Township, passed away Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township.
Born May 16, 1927, in Hanover Township, he was a son of the late John and Anna Stephanik.
Joseph was a 1945 graduate of Hanover Township High School, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was employed in the warehouse at J.S. Raub Corporation for more than 25 years, retiring in 1989.
Joseph was a member of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Wilkes-Barre, and a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 815, Wilkes-Barre Township.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, on July 2, 2006.
Surviving are his daughter, Donna Stancavage and her husband, Gerry, Drums; son, Joseph Stephanik and his wife, Linda, Hanover Township; granddaughters, Kristen Freedman, Kimberly Bourelly, Tracy Toole and Kerrie Angley; and great-grandchildren, Helene and Hannah Freedman, Jason Bourelly Jr., Alex and Madison Toole and John Angley.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, 21 N. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Hope Parish, Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. John S. Terry, pastor, will be celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary's Maternity Cemetery, West Wyoming. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
