EDWARDSVILLE — Michael Kobal, 77, of Edwardsville, and formerly of the Hanover section of Nanticoke, passed away Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, at Guardian Elder Care Center, Sheatown.
Born June 4, 1937, in the Hanover section of Nanticoke, he was a son of the late John and Helen (Pipar) Kobal.
Michael was a graduate of Nanticoke High School, class of 1954, and served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Edwardsville.
He was employed as an electrician and was a building manager for 30 years in New York City, retiring to Pennsylvania in 2002.
Michael enjoyed bowling, biking, long walks and going to Broadway shows and Jones Beach.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Nicholas, Peter, and George Kobal; sisters, Helen Kovalski, Julia Lubecki, Ann Wiley and Mary Tangora.
Surviving are his devoted and loving wife, the former Barbara Zionkowski, Edwardsville; and his brother, John Kobal and his wife, Marlene, Texas.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Edwardsville, with Father George Volkovinsky, rector, officiating. Entombment will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. There will be no calling hours.
