NANTICOKE — Mr. Stanley E. Witkowski, of Nanticoke, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born May 6, 1927, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Charles and Lottie Tomczak Witkowski.

Stanley attended Wilkes-Barre City schools and was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was employed as a building superintendent in New York City and was a member of Good Shepherd Church, New York. He was also a member of American Legion Post No. 815, Wilkes-Barre Township, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Freeland.

Stanley enjoyed trips to the casino, instant lottery tickets and going on drives with his old time friend, Sam, and his dog, Snoopy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane, on Feb. 3, 1990; daughter, Debra Ann; brothers, Bernard, Charles, Edward and Thomas; and sisters, Dorothy and Charlotte.

Surviving are his daughters, Victoria, Mary Jane, Rose Marie and Joann; son, Stanley Jr.; grandchildren, Edward Michael, John Anthony, Kevin Neil, Janelyn Marie, Brianna Marie, Taylor Ann and Katherine Ava; great-grandchildren, Erykah and Solomon; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Friday from the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, 21 N. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Hope Parish, Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. Richard Ghezzi will be celebrant. Interment with Military Honors will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, White Haven. Family and friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
