FORTY FORT — Joan Blockus Plava, 84, of Slocum Street, Forty Fort, died on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. She was a resident of Forty Fort for more than 50 years.

Joan was born on Nov. 8, 1929, in Wilkes-Barre, to the late Leo Feebish and Aida Tewkesbury. She graduated from Meyers High School and then from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital and as a nursing instructor. She later worked as a private duty nurse and then completed her career as a nursing instructor at Valley Crest Nursing Facility.

She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Swoyersville. She was a member of Holy Name Parish prior to the consolidation.

She was an avid golfer and was a member of Fox Hill Country Club. Along with golf, traveling was one of the things she loved.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Blockus Jr.; son, David Blockus; and brother, Robert Feebish.

Joan is survived by her son, Mark Blockus and his wife, Humeyra, Austin, Texas; brother, Leo Feebish Jr., Michigan; sisters, Ada Gunster, Dallas, Virginia Ritts, Harveys Lake; grandchildren, Evan Arda Blockus, Geoffrey Nadolski; great-grandchildren, Eric and Sean; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hugh B. Hughes & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Swoyersville. The interment will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
