SHAVERTOWN — John S. Novitski, 85, of Shavertown, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at the Meadows Nursing Home, Dallas.
Born in Edwardsville, he was a son of the late Andrew and Blanche Dringo Novitski. He was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary Business School and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Prior to retirement he was the controller at Penn State Belt and Buckle in Wilkes-Barre Township. He was a member of the Wyoming Valley Country Club and past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Club.
He was an avid stargazer, crossword master and cigar connoisseur.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Alice Zurinski; daughters, Janice Symons, Lehman, Jill Spencer and her husband, Scott, Lehman; sons, John Novitski Jr. and his wife, Terri, Trucksville, Jeffrey Novitski and his wife, Lori, Sweet Valley, Joel Novitski and his wife, Renee, Dallas; nine grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home Inc., 568 Bennett St., Luzerne, with the Rev. Michael Zipay officiating. Interment will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Lehman. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to the time of the service Saturday.
