Barbara T. Balut

Barbara T. Balut, 67, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., died on Sunday, December 28, 2008, at Heritage Hall in Leesburg, Va.
Born December 6, 1941, in Luzerne, she was a daughter of Michael J. Petro and Helen Kobik. She was a graduate of Luzerne High School, Misericordia University in Dallas and Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, with a Master’s Degree in special education. She taught elementary, secondary and special education. Before retiring, she taught at Sander’s Comer Elementary in Loudoun County, Va.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Ramon R. Balut; a daughter, Raeann H. Meier, of Round Hill, Va.; a son, Ramon M. Balut, of Conestoga, Pa.; a sister, Marianne A. Petro, of Dallas; three brothers, Michael and Paul, both of New Jersey, and Joe, of Orlando, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
A Catholic funeral Mass was held Monday, January 5, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, Charles Town, W.Va. Father Brian Owens was the celebrant.
The family received friends in celebration of her life at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, Charles Town/Harpers Ferry, W.Va., on Sunday, from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorials may be made to Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network, 11781 Lee Jackson Highway, Fairfax, VA 22033.
