Dennis E. Rawls, 45, of Wilkes-Barre, died at home on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010. Born in Bethpage, N.Y., he was a son of William and Marilyn Rawls of Mountain Top. Dennis was a 1982 graduate of Crestwood High School in Mountain Top where he served on the wrestling team. He studied art at Pikes Peak College in Colorado Springs, Colo. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed many activities, including canoeing, kayaking, skiing, hiking and camping. He was also fond of reading and of furthering his knowledge of U.S. history, national parks, Native American culture and heritage, world geography and national and international politics. Dennis had a great sense of humor, and was a loving father who was close to his family and enjoyed attending family activities. He was always available to help out when anyone needed a hand. He was much loved and will be greatly missed by all of his family members. Surviving, besides his parents, are his daughter, Kayla, of Wilkes-Barre; brothers, Ronald and his wife, Gloria; Michael, of Mountain Top, and Daniel, of Wilson, N.C.; sisters, Donna Buckingham and her husband, Patrick, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Robin Crawford, High Point, N.C., and Patricia Rawls, of Wilkes-Barre; as well as many nieces and nephews; grand-nieces and grand-nephews; cousins and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday from the Desiderio Funeral Home Inc., 436 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top, with the Rev. Father Joseph Evanko, of St Jude's Roman Catholic Church, Mountain Top, officiating. Friends are welcome to call Sunday, from 2 p.m. until time of service. Interment will be in Albert Cemetery.
