Ruby Shaffer Obituary

February 12, 2010

Mrs. Ruby Shaffer, formerly of Lovelton, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 12, 2010, at Olde Knox Commons Nursing Home in Huntersville, N.C. with family at her side. Born in Sayre, Pa., on March 5, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Florence (Oliver) Woodruff. For more than 30 years, Mrs. Shaffer and her husband ran Shaffer's General Store in Lovelton. In 2007 she was inducted into the Wyoming County Voter Hall of Fame, and in 1999 received a citation from Pa. Senator Charles Lemmond, honoring her 51 years of service to the North Branch Township Election Board, most of those years as Judge of Election. Ruby's kind and loving spirit earned her a host of friends whom she treasured and enjoyed visiting with. She was well known for her talented canning, cooking and baking abilities, and if anyone ever needed a helping hand, she could be counted on to be there for them. She was well loved by her adoring family and friends, and will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by many. She was a member of Lovelton Bible Church and Mehoopany VFW Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Stanley F. Shaffer in 1992; and two brothers, Edward and Richard Woodruff. Surviving are three children and their spouses, a son, Gary Shaffer and his wife, Terry, of Greenfield, Wis.; a daughter, Connie Knolles and her husband, Tom, of Huntersville, N.C.; a son, Richard Shaffer and his wife, Sue, of Media, Pa. Survivors also include a sister, Marie Hicks, of Sayre, Pa.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces; nephews; and cousins. A memorial service to celebrate Ruby's life will be held at a date to be announced. Interment will be in Colley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Lovelton Bible Church, c/o Doug Mills, RR 1 Box 1824, Laceyville, PA 18623. Arrangements were made through Raymer Funeral Home in Huntersville, N.C. and Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home in Tunkhannock. On line condolences may be sent to the family at www.sheldonkukuchkafuneralhome.com .

I am sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of buying penny candy at the store in Lovelton as a child. We called the store Ruby´s.
