Lawrence J. "Eshie" Wilchek of Scranton died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at the Regional Hospital of Scranton.

His wife is the former Sally Kime Bittenbender. The couple celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary on Oct. 3. Born in Ashley, he was a son of the late John and Agnes D. Colebob Wilchek. He was a graduate of Ashley High School, Class of 1956. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a stock clerk at McCrory's Stores, and upon his retirement he also worked for the YMCA and Lackawanna College. Lawrence enjoyed gardening and flowers. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church.

Also surviving are two sisters, Theresa Francik, Pittston; Jean Cooper and husband John, West Wyoming; six nephews, John Cooper Jr. and wife Takako, Brian Cooper, Jeffrey Cooper, Edward Francik Jr., Jerry Francik, Andrew Francik; several cousins and several pets.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John Wilchek, and a sister, Agnes Wilchek.

The funeral will be conducted on Saturday from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, 1605 Oram St. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township, will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Friday from 3 to 7 p.m.
