Betty C. (Heintzelman) Richards, 89, died on Monday Dec. 10, 2012, at the Homeland Center in Harrisburg, after a long illness.
Born on Aug. 21, 1923, in Mount Pleasant Mills, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Robert and Beulah (Hackenberg) Heintzelman, the second of four children.
Mrs. Richards graduated as a registered nurse from Philadelphia General Hospital and married her husband, Edward Richards of Trucksville, in 1942 while he was on leave from duty during World War II. After the war, she moved to Trucksville with her husband and raised four children. She was an active parent with the Trucksville Elementary School and the Trucksville Methodist Church. She chaperoned many of the school's trips and helped dress the children's choir every Sunday. During her nursing career she worked for Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Wilkes-Barre Veterans Hospital, Leader Nursing Homes, Planned Parenthood and also as a private-duty nurse.
She moved to Camp Hill, Pa., in 1987 with her mother and sister, Anna, to be closer to her family. She was a member of the Mt. Calvary Episcopal Church, Camp Hill.
She is survived by her children and family, Todd and Nancy Richards of Camp Hill; Paula and Joe Neil of New York; Brenda and Jack Devaney of Texas; Rodman Richards of Camp Hill; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her brother, James Heintzelman of Mt. Pleasant Mills; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Anna Heintzelman, and brother, Robert Heintzelman.
Funeral Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the Mt. Calvary Church Columbarium.
