Arthur J. Hearns Sr., 78, of Paradise Point, Lakeville, Pa., passed through this world on Monday evening, Dec. 17, 2012.

Born on March 29, 1934, in New York City, he was a son of the late Henry J. and May Guilfoyle Hearns.

In addition to serving his country in the Army during the Korean War, he served New York City as a police sergeant for 32 years and loved every minute of it as he resided in Maspeth, N.Y. He attended John Jay College and was a Fourth Degree member of Knights of Columbus. His favorite pastime was boating on Lake Wallenpaupack with his children and grandchildren.

Surviving are his former wife, Marianne Stokes Hearns, Reeders, Pa.; four children, Linda Diver and her husband, Michael, Reeders; Clare Oliva and her husband, Tommy, Upper Saddle River, N.J.; Laura Beers and her husband, Alfred, Mountain Top, Pa., and Arthur J. Hearns Jr. and his wife, Marybeth, Commack, N.Y.; six grandchildren that he adored, Connor and Kevin Diver, Reeders; Samantha Beers, Mountain Top; and Casey, Emma and Kate Commack.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Ledgedale, Pa. Anyone attending the Mass is asked to go directly to the church.

Friends may call Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. in the James Wilson Funeral Home, 143 Gravity Road, Lake Ariel. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ledgedale.
