Mary A. Walker, 92, formerly of Mocanaqua, died Sunday morning, Jan. 27, 2013 at the Pavilion at St. Luke's Village, Hazelton. Born January 2, 1921 in Mocanaqua, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Plewa) Novelli.

She graduated from the former Shickshinny High School and worked for many years in the local garment industry. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish/St. Mary's Church, Mocanaqua, and the Altar and Rosary Society of the church. She was also a member of the Mocanaqua VFW Post Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard P. Walker, who died in November 1989; brothers John, Joseph, Frank, Louis, Dr. Walter and Ignatius Novelli; and sisters, Loretta S. Fischetti and Catherine C. Barski.

Surviving are a son, Richard Walker, and his wife, Katherine, Stillwater; a daughter, Cathy Gurzynski, and her husband, Paul, Shickshinny; two grandchildren, Eric and Elizabeth Gurzynski.

The family extends special thanks to the nurses and staff at St. Luke's for their kindness and loving care of our mother and grandmother.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Mayo Funeral Home Inc., 77 N. Main St., Shickshinny, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Spirit Parish/St. Mary's Church, Mocanaqua, with the Rev. Anthony Generose as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Mocanaqua. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. For additional information, or to send condolences, please visit
