Raymond "Chiefee" Jenkins

Raymond "Chiefee" Jenkins, 82, of Plymouth, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30.

Born Aug. 7, 1930 in Plymouth, he was a son of the late Raymond and Mabel Weaver Jenkins.

Raymond was a graduate of Plymouth High School and Bloomsburg University. He furthered his education and instruction at the police academy.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Plymouth.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a policeman in Plymouth for more than 30 years, receiving the rank of sergeant in 1973. After he retired, he continued to work as a school crossing guard and parking enforcement officer for several years. Ray was a member of the Elm Hill Hose Company No. 3, Vine Street, Plymouth, for 64 years and served as fire chief from 1987 to 1993. He was a member of the Firefighters Union and the Pennsylvania Firefighters Association.

From the mid-1950s, Raymond was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Masonic Lodge 332 of Plymouth and a member of the Valley of Scranton Scottish Rite Consistory, Irem Shrine of Dallas and the Provost Guard.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Jenkins; sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Williams, Jean Patton and Ruth Patton; and nephew, Robert Patton.

Surviving are his nieces and nephews, Thomas Williams, Ann Williams, Sandy Whitesell, Lynne Onyschak, Judith Hinkley, Patsy Jenkins, Kevin Patton and Todd Patton; numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 W. Main St., Plymouth, with the Rev. David Quesenberry officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. Family and friends may call Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m.
