Mary Reiss Carr peacefully passed away from cardiopulmonary syndrome on Jan. 6, 2013 surrounded by her five children and husband of 67 years.
Born the youngest of seven in Wilkes-Barre on Sept. 1, 1924, a daughter of Frederick Reiss and Bridget McTague, she graduated from Meyers High School, Class of 1942.
After working in Washington, D.C., she married Lt. Bernard F. Carr at El Toro Marine Base in California on Dec. 30, 1945. Due to a military housing shortage, Mary and Bernard resided in the Laguna Beach Hotel for their first months of marriage, instilling in Mary a love for Southern California.
Mary raised her children in Altoona, and after 27 years once again returned to Laguna. She enjoyed living in Laguna for 36 years and then more recently joined family in San Diego and finally Puyallup, Wash.
Mary is remembered for her love and devotion to family; elegant grace and style; gentle, sweet demeanor and smile; quick wit; and political acumen.
Loved and cherished by friends and family alike, her legacy lives on through her five children, including MaryAnn Carr, Puyallup; Patricia Carr, San Francisco; Irene Carr and Cathy Carr, both of San Diego, and Bernard Carr Jr., Goleta, Calif.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital Hospice and LifeCare Connections for their gracious love and support.
Mary is interred at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, Wash. Condolences can be sent to the family at email@example.com.
