Thomas B. Leonard Sr., 86, of Weston, passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born in Sheppton on June 12, 1926, he was the son of the late George and Susan (Kowalski) Leonard, and spent the past 50 years in Weston after moving from Sheppton.

He was a retired steel worker for the former Bethlehem Steel, where he had worked for 39 years prior to retiring in 1991. He had also previously worked as an anthracite coal miner.

Tom was a member of the United Steel Workers Union and the Weston Athletic Association.

He loved playing guitar.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking, picking blueberries and mushrooms, bird-watching and building telescopes.

He was also an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan.

He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a sister, Mildred Bentivoglio.

Surviving are his wife, to whom he was married 50 years on May 12, 2012, the former Judith Seiwell; two sons, Thomas Jr. and his wife, Diane, Larksville; and Brian and his wife, Debbie, Eagleville; three grandchildren, Cody, Amanda and Michael; and two great-grandchildren, Ella and Denna; two brothers, Edward, Hazleton; and Bernard and his wife, Wilma, Oneida; and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in Nuremberg Cemetery.
