Feb. 18, 2013
Rosemary Elizabeth Zagorski, 84, Valdosta, Ga., went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 18, 2013, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.
She was born Rosemary Elizabeth Muldowney on Nov. 17, 1928 in Summit, N.J, a daughter of the late Walter E. Muldowney and Alice Quinn Muldowney. She later moved to the Bronx. She married Walter John Zagorski on July 12, 1952, and moved to Yorktown Heights, N.Y. in 1955.
Rosemary retired from the New York Board of Cooperative Educational Services, where she worked for more than 25 years as administrative assistant to the Director of Special Education. She then moved to Shavertown, where she resided until March 2011 before making the move to Valdosta.
Rosemary was a devoted wife and mother. She loved the title of grandma and said that being a grandparent was "the icing on the cake." Her hobbies included breeding and raising champion cairn terriers and showing them in dog shows all over the country, even winning several ribbons at Westminster AKC in Madison Square Garden. Another of her favorite pastimes was gardening, and her gardens were inspiring.
Rosemary was gentle in spirit and kind in nature and leaves a rich heritage of beautiful memories to her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, on April 11, 1991, and her brother Walter Eddie Muldowney.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen Loredan, and husband George, Queens; son Michael Zagorski and wife Elizabeth, Solon, Ohio; son Donald Zagorski and his fiancee, Janet, Boston, Ga.; grandchildren, Patrick Zagorski, Portland, Ore.; Matthew and John Zagorski, Valdosta; Alexandria and Victoria Zagorski, Solon, and Dennis and Claire Loredan, Queens; brother Tom Muldowney and wife Patricia, Dunkirk, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Lillian Muldowney, Stony Brook, N.Y.; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Valdosta, where she was a parishioner. Father Daniel O'Connell will officiate. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Carson McLane Funeral Home, Valdosta.
