C. Ronald Burr, 79, of 6 Rails Road, Tunkhannock (Burr Hill), passed away on Friday afternoon, Feb. 22, 2013 at the Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock.

Ron was born on June 26, 1933 in Meshoppen Township (Burr Hill), the son of the late Warren K. (April 28, 1992) and Hannah May Steltz Burr (July 31, 1977).

He was a graduate of Meshoppen High School, class of 1951. Ron met his wife, Gail E. (Swisher) Burr, in high school and married her on March 17, 1951. They would have celebrated 62 years of marriage next month.

Ron followed in his family's footsteps and owned and operated the Burr's Poultry Farm Inc. on Burr Hill, selling eggs, poultry and running the hatchery. He was a third-generation poultry farmer and retired in 1985. He also was a Wyoming County commissioner from 1984 to 1988.

Being very committed to his community and all of Wyoming County, Ron was a member of the Meshoppen United Methodist Church, the Rotary Club and Kiwanis Club of Tunkhannock, Meshoppen Fire Co., and the NRA. He served on the board and was a cemetery caretaker of the Overfield Cemetery Association. He was a past master of the Franklin Lodge No. 263 F&AM of Laceyville, the Irem Temple Shrine of Dallas and the Republican Party of Wyoming County. Ron was the chairman of the Wyoming County Housing and Redevelopment Authority. He was the treasurer of the Triton Hose Co. No. 1 in Tunkhannock. He was a member and past president of both the Meshoppen Rod and Gun Club and the Meshoppen Men's Club, also serving as its treasurer for many years. In his spare time, Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and playing cards.

Ron is survived by his wife, Gail E. (Swisher) Burr; daughters, Donna Burgess, of Meshoppen, and Cindy and Chris Ferris, of Meshoppen; grandchildren, Kelly and Gary Robbins of Retta, Pa., Jenny and Les Proffer of Pueblo, Colo., Jolene Sharer of Meshoppen, Jeffrey and Melinda Buckingham of Mehoopany, Christopher Buckingham of Meshoppen, Brianne Buckingham of Meshoppen, Nathaniel Buckingham of Tunkhannock, and Kassandra Buckingham of Springville, Pa., Autumn Ferris of Meshoppen, Jordan Ferris of Meshoppen; great-grandchildren, Logan Robbins, Alisa Proffer, Tyrus Proffer, Kaiden Proffer, Joshua Sharer, Dylan Sharer and Kayleigh Welch; brother, Theodore and Ellen Burr of Middleburg, Pa.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his sons, Raymond Spencer Burr (Sept, 28, 1955) and David Ronald Burr (Jan. 23, 1984); and a daughter, Carol Burr Buckingham (Jan. 25, 2009).

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Meshoppen, with the Rev. Thomas Mott, of the Meshoppen United Methodist Church, officiating. The committal service will follow at the Overfield Cemetery in Meshoppen. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with Masonic services conducted by the members of the Franklin Lodge No. 263 F&AM at 7:45 p.m. Members of the Triton and Meshoppen Fire companies will pass and review at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
