Richard D. James, 80, of Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday morning March 3, 2013 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Mr. James was born in Wilkes-Barre, August 8, 1932, a son of the late Richard and Cecelia Waruszewski James. He was a graduate of the E.L. Meyers High School, Class of 1950, and was an Air Force veteran having served during the Korean Conflict.
He had been employed for many years by Bell Telephone Co. of PA, along with A.T. & T. and later Verizon as an installation technician, retiring in 1990. During his employment, he became a member of the 100,000-mile club for safe driving with Bell Telephone Co. and also was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Upon retirement, he became a co-founder of L.E.D. Communications Co., Wilkes-Barre. Mr. James was a member of St. Conrad's Society and St. Conrad's Bowling League.
Mr. James was a devout Catholic and attended Mass every Saturday along with his wife as a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish at St. Aloysius Church, Wilkes-Barre.
He has been preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Bulman, in 2012.
Surviving are his wife, Constance (Connie) Plesnar James, with whom he would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on May 20, 2013; daughters, Jeannine Pineda and her husband, Mitchell, Cedar Grove, N.J., and Susan James, Nahant, Mass.; granddaughters, Alicia, Natalie and Julia Pineda, and Maura Cronin; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 a.m. in St. Robert Bellarmine Parish at St. Aloysius Church, 143 Division St., Wilkes-Barre. Entombment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may call Tuesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
