Ruth Aronson Klemow, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 3, 2013 at the home of her daughter Andrea Klemow Domsky in Dresher.
Born to Sam and Bessie Aronson on Sept. 16, 1918, she was educated in Scranton. Ruth resided in Wilkes-Barre before becoming a longtime resident of Hazleton. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Ruth married Jack Klemow in Wilkes-Barre on July 14, 1940, and they celebrated 64 years of marriage until his passing in February 2005.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter Bonnie.
She is survived by daughter Sharon Klemow Shafritz (David), of Larchmont, N.Y.; daughter Nadine Klemow Winkelstein (Michael), of Margate, N.J.; son, Kenneth Klemow (Sheree), of Kingston; daughter Sherri Klemow Shevlin (Barry), of Newtown, and Andrea Klemow Domsky (Samuel), of Dresher. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and six great- grandchildren.
Ruth was a member of the Agudas Israel congregation of Hazleton. She was completely devoted to the welfare and success of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took great pride in creating a loving, supportive home for her family, and a welcoming place for friends and relatives. Holidays were special events where she prepared and served legendary chicken soup and other Jewish comfort food.
The Klemow family is grateful for the outstanding care given to Ruth by Eileen Friedman and Barbara Brisker.
Funeral services were held Sunday from the Fierro Funeral Home, 26 W. 2nd St, Hazleton. Interment was at the Agudas Israel Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at the Klemow home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. through Thursday. Donations in Ruth's memory can be made to the Endowment Fund of the Agudas Israel congregation, 77 N. Pine St , Hazleton, PA 18201.
