Florence J. Calafut, 87, of Carbondale died Sunday at the VNA Hospice Unit of Geisinger CMC, Scranton.
She was the widow of Frank L. Calafut, who died in 2005.
Born in Simpson, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Martha Kiehart Smith. She was a graduate of Fell High School, Simpson. She had been employed by Waymart Knit Wear Co., Waymart.
Florence was a member of St. Michael's Church/ St. Rose Parish, Simpson, and a member of the former Confraternity of Christian Mothers and Guild. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be missed.
She is survived by a son, Frank Calafut, and wife Margaret, Carbondale; two daughters, Ann Marie and husband Jack Ruane, Laceyville, and Janice Calafut, Carbondale; brother, Andrew Smith; two sisters, Helen Jedrasiak and Genevieve Ostanik; six grandchildren, Tina and husband Jim Yarnall; Kelly and husband Jimmy Kulsicavage; Shannon, Adam and Ethan Calafut; Brandon Calafut and wife Chrysa; two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Elaina Kulsicavage; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Michael, Francis, Edward and Henry Smith, and two sisters, Martha Kowalsky and Adelia Mihalik.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home Inc., 621 Main St., Simpson, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Michael's Church, 46 Midland St., Simpson. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m.
