Alfred J. Gurnari, 78, of the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, died Friday morning at The Laurels, Kingston.
Born in Luzerne, he was the son of the late Bruno and Catherine (Provenziano) Gurnari.
Al attended Luzerne schools and was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Korea Service Medal and the U.N. Service Medal.
He was employed for Acme Bakery in Wilkes-Barre for 26 years, Blue Cross for 20 years and last for Gold Star Wide Format of Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of St. Benedict's Parish, Parsons. Al was an avid bowler at Chacko's Bowling.
He was preceded in death by his wife Anne Marie, on Feb. 28, 2013; brothers, Joseph, Dominick and Bruno Gurnari.
Surviving are his children, Nina Deno and her husband, Lloyd, of Ashley, Alan Gurnari, of Wilkes-Barre, Patty Zendarski and her husband, Bob, of Glen Lyon, and Joseph "Jody" Gurnari and his wife, Bobbi Jo, Plains; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Frank Gurnari, of Luzerne, Larry Gurnari and his wife, Helen, of Swoyersville, Anthony Gurnari, of Edwardsville, and Virgil Gurnari, of Luzerne; sisters, Arlene Kane and husband, Jerry, Swoyersville, and Anne Marie Padalski, Swoyersville; nephews and nieces.
Funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Corcoran Funeral Home Inc., 20 S. Main St., Plains, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Benedict's Parish, St. Dominic's Church, 155 Austin Ave., Parsons.
Interment with military honors will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
