Shirley Jean Whitebread

MONTROSE - Shirley Jean Whitebread, 90, of Montrose and formerly of Hobbie, passed away at Endless Mountain Hospital, Montrose, on Monday afternoon, March 3, 2014.

Born in Dorrance Township on Jan. 24, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Casper George and Alta Eulalia (Good) Travelpiece. She graduated from Nescopeck High School in 1941. She was employed at Weis Markets, then later, the former WT Grant Store, which became Kmart, until her retirement 25 years ago.

Shirley was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Hobbie, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the adult Bible class and Good Will Circle. She enjoyed traveling, quilting, sewing, reading and word-search puzzles. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Raymond E. Whitebread; granddaughter, Jennifer Garber; son-in-law, Donald Fetterman Jr.; brother, Luther Travelpiece; and sister, Mildred Wolfe.

Shirley was the beloved mother of four children, Gwen Fetterman, Montrose; John Whitebread, Berwick; Craig Whitebread and his wife, Georgene, Hobbie, and Melanie Parrish and her husband, Aaron, Hobbie; four cherished grandchildren, Wendy Fetterman, Megan Oleniacz, Amber Krause and Shawn Whitebread; as well as nine precious great-grandchildren, Patrick, Lyssa and Kyle Garber, Jacob and Carson Oleniacz, Alec and Abigail Krause and Brandon and Justin Whitebread. She is also survived by a sister, Frances Hess, Berwick; sisters-in-law, Louise Eroh, Hobbie; Wilma Kleintop, Bethlehem; Phyllis Travelpiece, Hobbie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 613 W. County Road, Hobbie. Interment will follow in Silver Maple Cemetery. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Heller Funeral Home, 633 E. Third St., Nescopeck, or 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday in St. Peter's.
