WILKES-BARRE — Edward A. Swoboda, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital.
Born Jan. 16, 1921, in Nutley, New Jersey, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary Sutto Swoboda.
He was a graduate of GAR High School, class of 1939. He is a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II, serving out of Portsmouth, Virginia. He was formerly employed by the Hazard Wire Work Co., Wilkes-Barre, for over 27 years and the Department of Veterans Affairs, Plains Township, for 17 years.
Ed cherished his classmates, neighbors and friends, as well as many memories of vacations to Ocean City, Maryland.
He was a member of St. Andrew Church, Wilkes-Barre, NARFA Federal Employees Union and American Legion Post 132, Wilkes-Barre.
He is preceded in death by his wife, the former Doris Melan; daughter, Elain S. Lyons; brothers, Joseph, Anton, Robert and Theodore.
He is survived by sister, Mary Picciano, Denville, New Jersey; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday from Mamary-Durkin Funeral Services, 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. in St. Andrew Church, Parrish Street, Wilkes-Barre. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
