John Kerestes Obituary

J ohn Kerestes, Tory Court, Nanticoke, passed away Tuesday in Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre after a brief illness.
John was a loving and unselfish father and husband.
He will be greatly missed by his family, especially his grandsons. He was born on April 18, 1918, in Ashley, to the late Michael and Anna Kerestes.
He graduated from Hanover High School and was an electrician with Kerestes Electric for 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, the former Ruth Kanyuck; brother Michael Kerestes; sister Anna Sabonis.
John served in World War II as sergeant in the 876th Airborne Engineer Battalion, from which he was honorably discharged.
He was a member of the Nanticoke Lodge 541, F&AM; Nanticoke VFW Post 290; Nanticoke American Legion Post 350; and the Glen Lyon Italian American Club.
John was a faithful member of St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as usher for many years.
He is survived by his devoted daughter and son-in-law, Anne Joyce and Gerald Antonelli, Nanticoke; faithful son Jonathan Kerestes, Nanticoke; adoring grandsons Gerald and John Antonelli, Havertown; Jonathan Kerestes, Alden; sisters Mary Hilbert and Kathryn Kresge, Newton, Pa.; Helen Hershberger, Kingston; brother-in-law and wife Albert and Ruth Kanyuck.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 tonight from the Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home, 14 W. Green St., Nanticoke.
Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday from Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. in St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Hugh Pillsbury officiating.
Interment will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, West Nanticoke.
Officers and members of Nanticoke Lodge 541 F&AM will conduct a service tonight at 6:45.
A prayer service will be held today at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Hugh Pillsbury officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.

Dear Gerald and family, So sorry to read about your Grandfather. Great memories and great people can never be taken away from us. He will live on forever in your hearts, minds and souls. You were blessed to have him with you so many years.
