Marjorie A. Lower
age 89, formerly of Coshocton, Ohio went home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 15, 2013. She was born Nov. 25, 1923 to the late Howard and Alma Brown Hartsock. She graduated from Keene High School in 1941 and earned her teaching degree from Muskingum College in 1966. She taught school for 32 years at Greenridge Parochial School, Fresno Elementary, West Lafayette Elementary, and Ridgewood Junior High. After retiring in 1988, she did substitute teaching at Hopewell, South Lawn Elementary, Central Elementary, and West Lafayette Elementary for six years. She was a member of the West Lafayette United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the United Methodist Women and the West Lafayette Jr. Guild. She also served as an active member of the Coshocton Senior Center Activity Board, the Coshocton County Retired Teachers and a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers. Her participation in all of the above were very much enjoyed. One of her greatest joys was being with her family and her many friends. Sharing love and fellowship. She loved to travel. She and her husband, Kermit visited all 50 states except for Hawaii. Going out to eat with family and friends was another activity she enjoyed very much.
She is survived by her husband, Kermit L. Lower whom she married Dec. 14, 1941 at the Roscoe Methodist Church. The wedding was officiated by the Reverend Paul Olinger. She is also survived by two sons, Robert L. Lower (Meriem Jo Casey Lower) Centerburg, Ohio and James E. Lower (Patty Frank Lower) Canal Fulton, Ohio. Three granddaughters, Andrea (Brian Adkins), Carey, North Carolina, Amy (Dave Blankenship), Grove City, Ohio, Rachel (Craig Mouldey) Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada; and five grandsons. Eric Lower (Jennifer Johnson Lower), Dayton, Ohio, Steven Lower (Joanna Diehl Lower), Columbus, Ohio, Brian Lower (Marcia Pardee Lower), Lewis Center, Ohio, Michael Lower (Liza Moser Lower), Canal Fulton, Ohio, Kevin Lower (Amy Venables Lower), Canal Fulton, Ohio, and Jonathan Lower, Kent, Ohio. Also surviving are 15 great-granddaughters and eight great-grandsons. One great-granddaughter is deceased. Marjorie had five brothers, Russell, Willard, Howard, Richard, Raymond and three sisters, Marie Olinger, Dorothy Tumblin, and Eva Ames, all of whom are deceased. She is survived by one sister-in-law, Irma Hartsock (Russell) and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 19 at the West Lafayette United Methodist Church with Pastor Sue Chidley, and Reverend Charles Warren officiating. Burial will be at Coshocton Memory Gardens. Her family suggests memorials be made to the West Lafayette United Methodist Church. Visiting hours will be held at Given-Dawson Funeral Home on Thursday, April 18 from 5 p.m.-8 p.m., and one hour before the service at the church. An online memorial can be viewed at

So sorry to read of Mrs. Lower's passing. She was a wonderful teacher, one of my all time favorite's when I was in school. I would see her out and about over the years and she always remembered me. A gracious woman. My prayers go out to the family.

Mrs. Lower was my 2nd grade teacher at Fresno Elementary in the 60's. I have very fond memories of her. I also worked with her when she subbed at Hopewell School. She was a great teacher. I send my condolences to all her family. I had so much respect for her, she will always be Mrs. Lower to me.
