80, of Dover, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013 at 11 p.m. in his residence after an extended illness. Born Sept. 14, 1933 in Cooksburg, Pa. he was a son of the late Ira A. and Maxine (McClure) Matthews. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was self-employed as owner of Superior Mobile Homes at Dover. He was an avid big game hunter and hunted all over the world.
Charles is survived by his two sons, Timothy J. (Tally) Matthews of Bolivar and Charles E. (Lisa) Matthews, Jr. of Brookfield, Ohio; his companion, Mary Tweddle (daughter, Joy) of New Philadelphia; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Patricia A. Mittas and two brothers.
In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of life and time of sharing will be held Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge at 1180 Union Ave. N.W, New Philadelphia, Ohio with Military Honors being conducted at 3 p.m. The Lebold-Smith Funeral Home at Bolivar is handling the arrangements.
