Daniel H. Wengerd

Daniel H. Wengerd
age 77, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully Tuesday morning, July 30, 2013, in the care of Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia, surrounded by his family. Born at Sugarcreek, Feb. 14, 1936, he was a son of the late Homer I. and Cora N. Yoder Wengerd. For most of his life, Dan, as he was known by his family and friends, worked as a truck driver, and more than 25 years of his career was working as a delivery driver for Nickles Bakery. At home, Dan enjoyed spending time farming and spending time with his family, especially camping and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, the former Mary Emma Adkins, whom he wed Oct. 6, 1956, and who now resides at New Philadelphia.
He will be sadly missed by his three daughters, Cindy (Ted) Newton of New Philadelphia, Wanda (Tom) Downing of Rutherfordton, N.C., and Gale (Jason) Muckley of Dover. Eight grandchildren, Felica (Tony) Ankrom of Uhrichsville, Matthew (Diana) Newton of New Philadelphia, Mike Prysi of Dover, Eric (Shelly) Prysi of New Philadelphia, Amy (Kyle) Hicks of New Philadelphia, Logan (Kylee) Varnes of New Philadelphia, Ryker Varnes of Dover, Gabriel Muckley of Dover; and three great-grandchildren, Hailey Newton of New Philadelphia, Nox Varnes of New Philadelphia and Colin Ankrom of Uhrichsville also survive. In addition to his parents, Dan is preceded in death by his brother, Alvin H. Wengerd, and an infant sister, Mary H. Wengerd.
Friends are invited to call Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where Pastor Trevor Littleton, Dan's great-nephew, will lead the Wengerd funeral service Friday morning at 10:30. Burial will follow in Union Hill Cemetery at Sugarcreek. Following the committal service, family and friends will return to Geib Funeral Center at Dover for a luncheon reception. In gratitude for their exemplary care, the Wengerd family requests that memorial contributions be made to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
