Donald Carl Stewart
98, of Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia, died Friday, March 29, 2013 in the Country Club Center following a brief illness. Don was a self employed real estate and insurance salesman in New Philadelphia for many years. Born May 25, 1914 in New Philadelphia, Ohio, he was the son of the late Carl C. and Sarah McKibben Stewart. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at New Philadelphia and was a former member of the New Philadelphia Lions Club. He proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II in the European Theatre where he spent time in Belgium, Austria, and the Netherlands. His family was the most important thing in his life.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Lois Luella (Ring) Stewart who died March 3, 2006. He will be sadly missed by his sons, Rodger Stewart (Debbie) of Stone Creek and Craig (Betty) Stewart of Dover; three grandchildren, Nicole (Josh) Hidey of Dover, Ben Basnett of Copley and Annie (Ryan) Kagy of Powell, Ohio; five great-grandchildren, Kaylyn and Kiera Hidey, Anna Kate Kagy and Ronnie and Brady Basnett. He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Riggle.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 1 p.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia with Jim McConnell officiating. Interment will be in the East Avenue Cemetery at New Phila where the Dover VFW will conduct military honors. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m..
