Evelyn L. Fier
85, of Carrollton, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013 at 1:39 a.m. in her residence following an extended illness. Born July 7, 1928 in Cleveland she was a daughter of the late Dominik Litvitus. She was a bookkeeper and assisted her husband in the operation of American Highway Products in Bolivar which he founded in 1978. Evelyn was a very strong-willed person and her self-taught knowledge about healthy eating and nutrition led her to become a Vegan, which enabled her to survive 35 years after being diagnosed with breast cancer. She was passionate about sharing her love of food and cooking with friends and family, and it was not uncommon for her to give gifts of her favorite vegan cookbooks and recipes to others. She also enjoyed roller skating and won many awards in competition.
Her husband of 58 years, Raymond L. Fier, preceded her in death Aug. 30, 2013. She is survived by two sons, Eric (Debbie) Fier of Bolivar and Scott (Virginia) Fier of Massillon; four grandchildren, Carmen, Kayla, Courtney and Dominic Fier; and a step-grandson, James. In addition to her father and husband she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Lisey. The family would like to thank all the people for their care and support above all, Lisa Jones, Linda Renner and Amy Martin with the Hospice Care Center at Carrollton, Ohio. Their love and affection is truly appreciated.
A celebration of Evelyn's life will be held at RiverTree Church at 7373 Portage St. NW Massillon beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday Jan. 4, 2014 with Jess Adkins officiating. Following the celebration a reception will be held in the home of Scott Fier at 7765 Cricket Circle Massillon, Ohio 44646. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Community Hospice of Carroll County at 1040 Trump Rd. Suite B Carrollton, Ohio 44615. The Lebold-Smith funeral Home at Bolivar is handling the arrangements. For those unable to attend please visit the funeral home's web site to share a memory and sign the guest register.
