Frank L. and Jean L. Davis

Frank L. and Jean L. Davis

Tribute to the lives of
Frank L. and Jean L. Davis from their loving children

Frank Leroy Davis of Tuscarawas County, age 85, passed away September 18, 2013, at his residence near Bowerston, Ohio. Born December 28, 1927, in Youngstown Ohio, he was the son of the late Leroy G. Davis and the late Lillian (Mitchell) Davis. He was preceded by his wife Jean Louise (Lovell) Davis born in Dover Ohio on March 24, 1929, daughter of Helen E. Schoelles and Jesse Lovell. Jean died at the age of 77 on November 16, 2006, after a battle against Alzheimer's disease.
Frank was raised in Ohio and after a brief period in the Army's 82nd Airborne Division, he returned to New Philadelphia and married Jean Lovell 9 months later on September 4, 1948. Jean Lovell, Valedictorian of Dover High School Class of 1947, was working at the IRS office in New Philadelphia. Frank started his career as a survey's rod man at Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District while still in high school and worked there his entire career after returning from the Army. Jean's primary focus was on raising their five children; however, she went back to college (Kent State) in 1976 for a business degree before eventually retiring from the United Way. They both also found time in their busy schedules to volunteer for the community, Jean for the American Red Cross and Frank for the York Township Volunteer Fire Department.
They spent 32 wonderful years as loving parents, and by example, taught their children the value of an honest day's work and to respect others. Frank never hesitated to take his children along hunting or fishing and was relentless in teaching his children the finer details of our Ohio area, local history and how to be good stewards of the land. Jean always stressed the importance of education, dedicated her time patiently helping with homework and would always point out the positive side of every situation. This is obvious by the successful careers of their five surviving children, their families and 13 grandchildren: Ann Dysinger (Renowned Artist and Hunting Guide) and her husband of Grover Hill, Ohio, Ellen Neely (Legal Assistant) and her husband of Oklahoma City, Okla., Jon Davis (Explosives Expert & Wood Craftsman) and his wife of Waxhaw, N.C., Mitchell Davis (Highly Decorated NASA Engineer) and his wife of Annapolis, Md., and Abbe Flynn (Real Estate Agent and Investor, PhD ) with her husband of Tallahassee, Fla. The five children are now comforted in the knowledge their parents are again reunited in eternity.
In lieu of a public gathering, the children would love to hear stories about Frank and Jean from relatives, friends, co-workers and acquaintances, who had the pleasure of knowing this delightful couple, including photographs. The stories will be added to the family genealogy for future generations to enjoy. Please send your memories to this email address davismemorial@comcast.net or to Davis Memorial, 715 Intrepid Way, Davidsonville, Md. 21035.
