95, of Dennison, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2014, at Trinity Hospital Twin City in Dennison after a period of declining health. Born May 8, 1918, in Dennison, he was a son of the late Nunzio and Sara (Giannetti) Zeno. Joe was a lifelong resident of Dennison with the exception of the four years he spent proudly serving his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He fought in the battle for the Northern Solomon Islands in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, earning a bronze star for his service. Upon returning home, he began his long career at Evans Clay. Later, he was employed by the Tuscarawas County Road and Bridge Department for 15 years until his retirement in the early 80s. Joe was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. He was also a former member of the Dennison American-Italian Club who enjoyed playing softball in his younger years. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and Indians, and even spent part of his last day cheering on the Indians. On July 8, 1950, Joe married the former Yolanda Patricia Civiello with whom he celebrated over 63 years of marriage. She survives him at their home; he is also survived by their daughters, Goldie (Kenneth) Host of Dennison and Sara Black of Columbus; son, Joseph J. (Vickie) Zeno, Jr. of Dover; grandchildren: Marie Fellers, John Fulton, Kelley Host, Kendra Host, Kraig Host, Jessica Matroni and Joshua Zeno; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other extended family members. He will also be missed by his devoted caregivers for whom he and his family have great affection and appreciation: Annette, Patty, Janice, Mitzi, Kelly, Cheryl and Debbie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carinda Mary Zeno; grandson, Kenny Host, Jr.; and four sisters: Rose Bonamico, Carmella Zeno, Mary Zeno and Helen Zeno.
Services for Joe, officiated by Father Anthony Lonzo, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30th., in Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery near Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a Christian Wake service at 6:45 p.m. to conclude the visitation. Those wishing to honor Joe's memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Immaculate Conception Church, in lieu of flowers.
