L. Vernon Stocker
93, of 528 N. Crescent St., Sugarcreek, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013 at 8:10 a.m. in Park Village Health Care Center at Dover after an extended illness. Born April 25, 1920 in Port Washington he was a son of the late Elmer and Cora (Craigo) Stocker. He retired in 1988 from the Belden Brick Company at Sugarcreek after 48 years and was a member of the First United Church of Christ at Sugarcreek. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in France. He was a member of the Sugarcreek American Legion, the Dover V.F.W. and the Garaway Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Couts whom he married April 12, 1947. Also surviving are his children, Terry (Sharon) Stocker of New Philadelphia, Kevin (Connie) Stocker of Strasburg and Bonnie Stocker of Sugarcreek; three grandchildren, Scott (Joy) Stocker of Maumee, Chad (Nikki) Stocker of New Philadelphia, Elizabeth Stocker of New Philadelphia; and two great-grandchildren, Sam and Ben Stocker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Blaine and Homer Stocker; and a sister, Betty McMorrow.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the First United Church of Christ at Sugarcreek. Rev. Eric Rummel will officiate and burial with military honors will be held at a later date in Port Washington Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Smith-Varns Funeral Home at 1018 W. Main St., Sugarcreek and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
