Richard Calvin Jones Sr.
87, of Scio died early Friday morning, Jan. 10, 2014 in the Great Trail Care Center following an extended illness. Born Dec. 31, 1926 in Weirton, W.Va. he was a son of the late Edward L. and Clara Wahl Jones. Rich was retired from Weirton Steel where he had served as the foreman of both the Torch Repair shop and the Scale/Pump repair shops. He also worked as a consultant/sales rep. for National Torch Tip Co. in Pittsburgh. Devoted to his family and a hard worker Rich also operated a 203 acre farm while working in the mill and after retirement. Rich was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors. He also was an accomplished woodworker and carver. He was an Army veteran, a member of the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, a member of the Masonic Lodge #171 in Weirton, W.Va., and was a 32 degree member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville
Rich is survived by his wife, the former Arlene Koval, whom he married Aug. 20, 1948; a son, Richard (Laurie) Jones Jr. of Scio; daughter, Melanie (Lester) Dodds of Carrollton; four grandchildren, Andrew (Holly) Dodds, Aaron Dodds, Cody Jones, and Amber Hosey; and a great-grandson, Brycen Hosey. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at 11 a.m. in Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home of Carrollton with Rev. Dan Loomis officiating. Burial will follow in the Perrysville Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the American Legion, VFW, and DAV. Visitation will be Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home with Masonic Services at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Rich's name may be made to the Carroll County Visiting Nurse Association, 1115 Canton Road, Carrollton, OH 44615.
