Arthur Charles "Ace" Ellwood
85, of Uhrichsville, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia after a lengthy illness. Born March 17, 1928 in North Industry, Ohio, he was a son of the late Charles Arthur and Eva J. (Keffer) Ellwood. A lifelong resident of Tuscarawas County, Ace was a graduate of Tuscarawas High School in 1946. He was a longtime employee of Reeves Cyclops Steel until his retirement in 1985 and had previously worked in the local clay industry. He was a member of West Union United Methodist Church in Gilmore. Ace was a member of the United Steel Workers, a life member of the N.R.A. and a member of the West Chester Senior Center. When his sons were young, he was active with them in the Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Master and in Little League, serving as the Treasurer. In his later years, he developed a great love of woodworking and will be remembered for the unique canes that he created with marbles in the handle. He made over eighty canes, most of which he gave away to friends and folks in need. He also made birdhouses, puzzles and furniture, and enjoyed collecting marbles as well.
On Sept. 30, 1951, he married the former Betty J. Myers with whom he enjoyed over sixty-one years of marriage. He is also survived by three sons, Randy (Debbie) Ellwood and Rick (Wendy) Ellwood of Uhrichsville and Jerry (Susie) Ellwood of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Chad (Nikki) Ellwood, Beth Ellwood, Lisa (Andrew) Smith, Todd (Elizabeth) Ellwood, Lori Ellwood, Chip Ellwood, Justin Ellwood, Lachelle McClintock-Ellwood and Vanessa McClintock-Ellwood; two great-granddaughters who were his pride and joy, Emilee Ellwood and Evanna Smith; a brother, William (Stella) Ellwood of Uhrichsville; two sisters, Mary Lou (Curtis) Abbuhl of Tippecanoe and Sarah Wilson of Uhrichsville; several nieces and nephews; and many good friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Kinsey.
Services for Ace, officiated by Pastor Beth Mansperger, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville's Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
