Betty Youngen Obituary
Born on Jan. 12, 1928, in Dover, she was the daughter of the late James William "Bill" and Vernice "Peg" Dunlap Milsted. Betty attended Dover High School and later received her GED. On April 25, 1948, Betty married Wilbur Youngen, who preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 2005. Together they had three children.
Betty was a former member of the Dover Foursquare Church where she volunteered as an office worker and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a member of the First Assembly of God in New Philadelphia. She enjoyed puzzles, gardening, crocheting, reading, and collecting recipes.
She will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Dianne Gardner of Sherrodsville and Nancy (Dave) Smith of Dover; her son, Dennis (Patty) Youngen of Hawkinsville, Ga.; and her four grandsons, Denny Youngen, Kyle and Sean Gardner and David Reynolds; as well as two foster sisters, Opal Rhodes and Dorothy Stingel; a brother-in-law, LaVerne Youngen; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her foster parents, John and Florence Fulk; two half sisters, Lillian Lark and Margaret Zifer; a half brother, Luke Milsted; and her foster sister, Janie Bussinger.
A celebration of Betty's life will take place at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Ron May officiating. Burial will follow in Dover Burial Park. Following the service of committal, a meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday, Sept. 13, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. Those unable to attend, or who would like to share a fond memory of Betty, may do so by visiting the "obituaries" link on the funeral home's website.
