Bruce Mumma Obituary

Bruce A. Mumma
Age 46, of Dover passed away peacefully early Friday evening, in his home, following a lengthy illness. Born at Dover, Nov. 28, 1965, he was the youngest of three children born to Erma Irene Mizer Mumma and the late Simon Peter Mumma, Jr. Bruce will be remembered for his broad grin and the ability to smile using both his eyes and mouth. Together with his brother, Dale and mother, he operated Mumma Farms of Dover and Stonecreek. As a young man, Bruce enjoyed 4-H, and for many years went on to show his prize tomatoes at the county fair, and participate in the activities of the former Brandywine Grange. He was a 1984 graduate of Dover High School and Buckeye Career Center where he was active in the Future Farmers of America. Ever a hard worker, Bruce was a fourth generation to operate the family farm that was founded more than a century ago by his great-grandparents George and Tillie Zahner Spies. In a rare moment of spare time, Bruce could be found hunting, trapping, splitting firewood, gardening, photography and traveling with his mother to toy shows.
Survivors, in addition to his mother and brother, who reside on the farm, include a sister, Carol (husband, David) Smith of Smithville, and their two children, Matthew and Stephanie Smith; Aunts, Ruth (husband Ted) Loessi of Dover, and Mary (Don) Carruthers of Berea, and Wilma Mizer of Dover, also survive; numerous cousins complete the family. Bruce is preceded in death by an uncle, Clyde Mizer; and his maternal grandparents, Harry and Lillian Harmon Mizer; and his paternal grandparents, Simon P. and Erma M. Spies Mumma.
Friends are invited to call Monday from 4-7 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where Pastor Brian Flood will officiate funeral services for Bruce Tuesday at Noon. Burial will follow in Stonecreek Cemetery. Following the committal service, family and friends will gather for a reception in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Those unable to attend are invited to share memories, send condolences, and light a candle in remembrance of Bruce by visiting the funeral home's website. The Mumma family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Johns United Church of Christ, or to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, in gratitude for their exemplary care.

I am so sorry for your loss. I went to school with Bruce at Park - then Dover High and Buckeye too and was saddened to read of his passing. One of the things I will always remember about him was his Smile - he had a smile that could light up the room! My thoughts are with you and your family. May the peace which comes from the memories of love shared, comfort you now and in the days ahead. Kim “Meese Wallace ~ Dover High School Class of 1984

I was in the same Ag & Diesel Mechanics class as Bruce. He was a warm friendly person who was always willing to lend a helping hand to who ever needed one. A great man that will truely be missed. My deepest sympathy to his loving family.

Heartfelt sympathy and may God's loving arms encircle you to fill you with peace. Bruce's smile was contagious! In Bruce's quiet way, I doubt that he fully realized how his smile could brighten a person's day.
