71, of Uhrichsville, passed away on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Canton after a lengthy illness. Born Feb. 28, 1941 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Guzzi and Mary Frances (Civiello) Ross. Carmela was a lifelong resident of the Twin City area and a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison and its Altar Society. She was a member of the St. Mary's H.S. Alumni Association, having graduated in 1958. In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, she was an administrative assistant for Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School for a number of years and then for Harcatus until her retirement in the early 90's. Carmela loved to play bingo and socialize with her family and many friends who will fondly remember all the good times with her around the kitchen table laden with her delicious home cooking.
She is survived by two sons, Larry (Angie) Mills, Jr. of Dover and Tim (Belinda) Mills of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Lauren (Derrick) Castello of Uhrichsville, Emily Mills of Cleveland, Sarah Mills who is studying at Kent State University, Brittany Mills of Uhrichsville, Brennon Mills of Uhrichsville and Shawn Mills of New Philadelphia; a great- granddaughter, Haidyn Castello of Uhrichsville; sisters, Josephine Benedetto and Ginny Kay (Dick) Rimer of Dennison; brother, Rusty (Liz) Jones of Newton Falls, Ohio; companion, Dave Sumner of Uhrichsville; step grandson, Andrew Creager; step great- granddaughters, Kalyn and Madison Creager; and numerous nieces, nephews and God children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former spouse, Larry L. Mills, Sr.; her second husband, David L. Creager with whom she spent twenty years of marriage until his passing; and a brother-in-law, Bill Benedetto, Sr.
Services for Carmela, officiated by Father Anthony Lonzo, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 in Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery near Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Immaculate Conception Church's Memorial Book Fund, in lieu of flowers.
